Bracket Order

Trade Mechanics

An entry order submitted with linked take-profit and stop-loss exits, so protection is active from the moment the trade is filled.

A bracket order is an entry order submitted together with two protective exits — a take-profit above and a stop-loss below for a long position, and the reverse for a short. Once the entry fills, both exits become active and are usually linked so that filling one automatically cancels the other. Brackets combine several order types into a single lifecycle, which removes the risk of forgetting to attach protection after a fast entry. Most retail platforms implement them as stop-loss and take-profit fields on the order ticket, backed by an OCO relationship between the two exits. Because the exits rest on the broker's server, they keep working even if the trading terminal is closed or disconnected.
