Dormant Account

Costs & Fees

A trading account with no activity for a defined period, typically subject to inactivity charges and restricted access until reactivated.

A dormant account is a trading account that has seen no logins, trades, or funding movements for a period defined in the broker's terms, after which it is flagged and treated differently from an active one. The consequences vary: brokers commonly begin applying a periodic inactivity charge against the remaining balance, may restrict access until identity documents are refreshed, and, where unclaimed-property rules apply in the jurisdiction, may eventually be required to transfer residual funds to a state or regulator-run scheme. Clients keep the right to reclaim their money, but the process is slower than a normal withdrawal. Closing an unused account or withdrawing the balance avoids charges quietly accruing against funds nobody is watching.
