Analysis Paralysis

Risk Management

Endlessly gathering confirmation without reaching a decision — a common reason setups are missed or entered late and worse.

Analysis paralysis is the state of gathering more and more information without ever reaching a decision — adding another indicator, checking another timeframe, waiting for one more confirmation until the setup has already passed. It usually stems from wanting certainty in an environment that only offers probabilities, and it can be as costly as impulsive trading: opportunities are missed, and the eventual entry tends to be late and worse-priced. The opposite failure, acting with no analysis at all, is not the remedy. Traders typically address overanalysis structurally, by fixing in advance which inputs count, how many conditions must be met, and by what time a decision has to be made — so the checklist ends rather than expands.
