New York Session
FundamentalsThe New York or US session runs roughly 13:00-22:00 GMT, overlaps London for peak volume and carries most major US data releases.
The New York session, sometimes called the US session, runs roughly from 13:00 to 22:00 GMT and is the final major window of the trading day. Its first half overlaps with London, and that overlap is normally the highest-volume period in forex, with the tightest spreads in dollar pairs.
US economic releases — employment reports, inflation data and Federal Reserve announcements — usually land during this session, so short bursts of volatility are common. After London closes in the early evening, liquidity drains away, ranges narrow and spreads can widen, particularly in crosses. Daily candles on most platforms close at the end of the New York day, which is also when swap is applied.
