Trade Confirmation

Trade Mechanics

The broker's record of each executed order — instrument, size, price, timestamp and charges — and the primary evidence in any dispute over a fill.

A trade confirmation is the record a broker issues for each executed order, stating the instrument, direction, size, execution price, timestamp, and the commission, swap or other charges applied. It is generated automatically in the platform's history and is usually available as a statement covering a period. Its value is evidentiary. A confirmation is the primary document in any dispute over a fill, a charge or a closed position, and it is what an ombudsman or ADR body will ask for first. Timestamps are recorded in the server's time zone rather than yours, which is the detail that most often makes a confirmation appear to contradict a chart. Exporting statements periodically is worth doing, because platform history is not guaranteed to remain accessible after an account is closed or migrated.
