Chart template

A chart template is a saved bundle of one chart's settings — which indicators are on it and with what settings, the colours, the scale, and in some platforms the drawings — that can be applied to another chart in one step. It stores settings, not data: applying it to a different instrument does not bring the first instrument's prices with it. Two things follow. Applying a template usually replaces what was on the chart rather than adding to it, so anything not in the template is gone, which is why the template rather than the chart is worth treating as the record of a layout. And a template is a local file. It is not part of the account, does not follow a reader to another machine unless it is copied there, and a chart that looks different on a phone or in a browser is usually a chart no template has been applied to.
