Trading discipline is the consistent ability to follow a predefined trading plan's rules — entries, exits, and position sizing — regardless of recent results or in-the-moment emotion. It's widely considered more decisive to long-term success than any specific strategy, since even a mediocre edge executed with discipline tends to outperform a strong edge abandoned under pressure. Discipline is typically built through structural supports (a written plan, a trading journal, daily loss limits) rather than willpower alone, since willpower reliably erodes under the stress of live losses.
